Infrastructure services provider M Group has launched its first Sustainability Strategy, setting out commitments including a 42% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions and a move to 100% electric company cars by FY30.
The strategy sets out measurable environmental, social and governance commitments through to 2032 and was published alongside M Group’s FY2026 ESG Report.
It focuses on seven material outcomes across three pillars: Environmental Stewardship, Social Responsibility and Trusted Operations.
M Group’s Operations Board has endorsed the strategy, with each outcome given a named executive owner and incorporated into the group’s risk and assurance processes. Progress will be reported annually.
Under its climate commitments, M Group aims to cut Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 42% from its FY22 baseline by FY30. It also aims to reduce Scope 3 emissions intensity per pound of value added by 51.6%.
The group aims to move to 100% electric company cars, 80% hybrid operational cars and around 20% electric vans by FY30.
Its skills and engagement commitments include reaching at least 80% colleague engagement by FY29, providing five annual training days for field colleagues and seven for non-field colleagues, and increasing apprenticeships to more than 6% of the workforce.
M Group is also targeting an EcoVadis Silver rating by the end of FY27. It plans to report ESG progress annually and align reporting with the UK Sustainability Reporting Standards, with external assurance over key data by FY30.
M Group chief executive Andrew Findlay said: “We support the country’s critical regulated businesses to deliver vital services for communities across the UK, and they need like-minded partners who can help them deliver their binding environmental commitments.
“Our ambition is simple: to leave things better than we found them, better infrastructure, better careers and a better business for those who come after us.”
The FY2026 ESG Report records Scope 1 and 2 emissions at 20.7% below the FY22 baseline.
It also records a reduction in carbon intensity from 50t of CO2e per £1M of turnover in 2020 to 16t of CO2e per £1M.
M Group’s EcoVadis score increased from 56 to 64, earning the group its first Bronze medal and placing it in the top 35% of companies globally. Its Technology and Communications division received a Silver Medal, awarded to companies in the top 15% of those assessed by EcoVadis in the 12 months before the medal issue date.
The group also said it invested £7.5M in training, with 87 graduates and 642 apprentices on programmes. And at least £75M of social value was recorded, while 1,098 supply chain partners were evaluated and approved by M Group.
M Group’s director of ESG and innovation Andrew Hunt said: “The report shows how we’ve performed; the strategy sets out where we’re going. Each material outcome has an owner and a measurable target or milestone, and we’ll report progress every year.
“This is the direction our business is heading, will measure, and be held accountable to.”
