As reported by CyberScoop, a new bipartisan Senate bill, the Quantum-GUARD Act, has been introduced to address the potential cybersecurity threats posed by quantum computers to the U.S. electric grid. The legislation seeks to ensure federal regulators are prepared for these future vulnerabilities.The Quantum-GUARD Act directs the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to consider quantum computing threats when reviewing reliability standards for electricity owners and operators. It also mandates FERC to explore the use of post-quantum cryptography in both information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT) systems.
